Design proposal for pop-up art gallery & booth for Brand X, an online weekly happenings blog which is a division of the L.A. Times. The design is for the 2009 Abbott Kinney festival, in Venice, California, and was to be created entirely out of recycled materials/waste.

The design uses trashed and recycled billboard vinyl. The billboard vinyl would be laser-cut into strips, then woven together into strong tapestries, with pockets on all sides. The weavings would then be stretched with pipes (pvc or aluminum) into moveable stanchions/dividers. This transforms the billboard vinyl into an organic texture, almost like a bush or a hedge. This is also where the 2-D artwork would hang. Ideally, the recycled billboard material would come from LA Times (and other editorals), music & culture advertisement boards to keep in the theme of Brand X.
Additional materials: Hardware, pvc & aluminum tubing (preferably recycled), objects to cover and function as chairs & sculpture stands.
The top of the booth is also laser-cut billboard vinyl. This is an opportunity to incorporate some of the Brand X logo branding into a decorative pattern.

Lighting Option: Recycled drink-bottle chandeliers.
