Design for a competition held in East Hollywood to re-design the common bike-rack. The city planned to install several dozen along the main streets of Vermont Ave. & Sunset Blvd.
Stylistically, the design was inspired by the bicycle culture and aesthetics of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, and the art nouveau movement which was popular at the same point in history and which influenced the celebration of bicycles as objects of beauty and elegance. The design is organic and highly detailed, but was still conceived with the consideration for ease of fabrication – it should be buildable using common metal extrusion parts.
